3 idiots is one of the evergreen and all time blockbuster Indian movie inspired by book which was even remake in many languages was inspired by Chetan Bhagat’s book “Five Point Someone: What not to do on IIT” this book was released in 2004 by Chetan Bhagat and sold over a million copies all around the world a Tamil film Nanban also took the inspiration from here.

This novel was basically published in 1815 also said to be “Comedy Of Manners”. This novel written by Jane Austin shows the difficulties and problem faced by genteel women in England.

Susanna’s Seven Husbands (7 Khoon Maaf):
7 khoon maaf is also an Indian movie inspired by book. This was a novel or you can say a short story written by Ruskin Bond initially it was a 4 page short story which was later extended to 80 page novel. Vishal Bhardwaj (Director of 7 Khoon Maaf) wrote the script getting inspired from this book.
This movie became super hit after its release and was loved by the audience this film even received 2 filmfare awards for best actress (critics) and best playback singer.

The Last-Leaf (Lootera):
Very few people know that a very beautiful Indian movie of 2013 “Lootera” was inspired by a 1907 O. Henry short story “The Last Leaf”. Vikramaditya Motwane made a film out of it where the character of Pakhi Roy was taken from the O. Henry story, where as the other character of Nandu was a character which was the imagination of Vikramaditya.
This Indian movie inspired by book got a lot of praises from critics not only for story but for direction, screenplay, direction etc. but the show stealer was the background music given by the composer.

Saraswatichandra (Saraswatichandra):
Many people remember the very famous T.V. program sarawatichandra in 2013 but do you know that in 1968 a film starring Nootan was made by the same name and both of these stories was an inspiration from a book written by Govardhanram Tripathi in 4 parts published in 4 different years 1887, 1892, 1898, and 1901, respectively.
This book was originally written in Gujrati and the story is also set in Gujrat, during 19th century this novel was declared masterpiece in terms of Gujrati Literature and was loved by many readers all over nation not only in films and serials but many radio plays, several theatre plays were also inspired by this novel.
Even now no book has ever given competition to this novel in terms of Gujrati Literature, this novel till now is still a masterpiece. Film Saraswatichandra was an Indian movie inspired by book.

Karachi You Are Killing Me (Noor):
In 2014 Pakistan a novelist called Saba Imtiaz wrote a book called “Karachi You Are Killing Me” was published which received a lot of praise from critics and became one of the best seller books in Pakistan.
And in 2017 an Indian movie inspired by book called “Noor” was made out of it in which the problems in the novel which was faced in Karachi was replaced with Mumbai.
Sonakshi Sinha was the lead character of the movie though unlike novel this film didn’t perform well in the box office.

Some people will be little shocked to see this film on the list but it’s true an Oscar winning Indian movie is inspired by book written by Indian Novelist and diplomat Vikas Swarup this book was published in 2005 and the movie was released in 2008.
The novel was same as movie where the main character is a waiter and wins a very big quiz show only to be arrested and jailed on accusations that he cheated.
His lawyer is the only person standing between him and the producers’ and police’ attempt to force a false confession that would deprive him of the prize.
The only way to prove his innocence is by sharing the episodes of his life and travels in India which explain where and how he learned the answers to the quiz show questions.
The only difference between novel and movie was the introduction of two new characters by the director of Slumdog Millionaire named Jamal and his brother Salim. Just like movie Q&A became the best seller book of 2005 the quiz show from the book was inspired from a British show “Who Wants to be a millionaire”.
The movie adaptation became very famous around the world and won eight Oscar Awards the most for any 2008 film—which includes Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Adapted Screenplay. Also it got seven BAFTA Awards including Best Film, five Critics’ Choice Awards and four Golden Globes.
It was directed by Danny Boyle.

Here’s another book of Chetan Bhagat in the list it was the third novel by Chetan Bhagat which sold 4 lakh + copies all over world the novel focuses on the story of three friends living in Ahmedabad.
This was third bestselling book of Chetan Bhagat.
The movie version of the novel is Kai Po Che! Directed by Abhishek Kapoor starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Amit Sadh & Rajkumar Rao it was released in February 2013.
The film and the book are set in Gujarat, that’s why the title is Kai Po Che!
Like novel movie (Kai Po Che!) was also an Indian movie inspired by book which was a hit and was praised all over India.
It was made in a budget of 25 crores and earned around 70 crores in all over India and took the title of a hit film, got filmfare nomination of six filmfare awards and won two awards for best screenplay and best background score.
Songs like “Shubharambh” and “Manjha” are loved by masses and are mandatory songs in the playlist of Navratri and Sangeet.

Parineeta (Parineeta):
Parineeta is a book written by Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay is a 1914 novel which was adapted by a movie by the same name released in 2009.
The story was basically set in Calcutta the title means a married woman in Bengali. Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay is also known for his novel Devdas which was also adapted by a movie and even got the Oscar nomination.
This novel highlights the social protest which explores issues of that time period related to class and religion.
This novel became very famous in Bengali Literature also got a lot of praise. It even got translated in Marathi, Gujrati and English and was sold all across the nation. Parineeta an Indian movie inspired by book.

The Guide (Guide):
A book by RK Narayan was an English novel published in 1958. Like most of his works the novel is based on Malgudi, the fictional town in South India.
The novel describes the transformation of the protagonist, Raju, from a tour guide to a spiritual guide and then one of the greatest holy men of India.
The novel brought Narayan the 1960 Sahitya Akademi Award for English, by the Sahitya Akademi, India’s National Academy of Letters. In 2022, it was included on the “Big Jubilee Read” list of 70 books by Commonwealth authors, selected to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II.
